Plan The Perfect Mini-Vacation With These Top 10 Weekend Getaway Ideas
School is back in. The holidays are around the corner. Summer is approaching. Special occasions are always looming. Bottom line. It's never a bad time to plan the perfect getaway. Let's dive into some excellent ideas that have proven to be wonderful for mini-vacations and weekend getaways.
You need to get away, but don't have the time or money to take a week or two off to head to your favorite destinations. Many people count out taking a weekend and heading to a semi-local vacation spot that allows them to get away, relax, enjoy time alone or together, and find romance, rest, fun, or whatever it is you are looking for in a vacation.
The great thing about getting away for a couple days is you can do so without coming back to more work than you left. It's also great if you leave kids behind so you don't put people helping out for too long. On top of that it can be a great way to travel on a budget while not taking too much time off work or away from their daily lives.
With that said here is a simple list of weekend getaways that you can print out and enjoy immediately. These ideas are not an all-inclusive list as there are great things to do in any nook of the world that doesn't involve a ton of travel. Use your imagination and have some fun coming up with great mini-vacation ideas.
1. Romantic Getaways: These are usually at the top of the list. With anniversaries, holidays, romantic events, and so on always around the corner, we need to be on our toes to come up with fresh ideas to sweep our significant others off their feet and keep the romance going. Rent out a bed and breakfast in a small town, grab a hotel in a romantic city like Paris, take a quick beach vacation, head to Las Vegas and enjoy all it has to offer. Romantic spots are as creative as you make them. Sometimes just being together is all that you need.
2. Adventure Travel: Hiking, biking, mountain climbing, white-water rafting, fishing, boating, and other extreme or unique style travel adventures can be great. It really comes down to what you enjoy doing and if you're ready for something other than lying around, then this type of trip could be perfect for you.
3. Sporting Events: Whatever your fancy when it comes to this one. Do you love golf? What about spring training/baseball? Maybe venture to a nearby city for a professional sporting event? I've done the Kentucky Derby for a bachelor party which was a blast. Ice fishing near Canada was a blast. Maybe get out there and go see the Tour De France. It's up to what you love to do.
4. Camping: This is a cheap vacation that can be fun, romantic, and adventurous. The great thing about camping is that you can go as lavish or rough it as much as you want. There is a lot of cool things to do while camping that make it a perfect weekend-getaway as it allows for a few days away from reality.
5. Theme Parks: One year we traveled to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio and enjoyed a day at the theme park and the night at Put-n-Bay on Lake Erie. Also, we live near Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio and many people travel from all over to spend a couple of days enjoying the attractions there as well.
6. Famous vacations spots: Las Vegas comes to mind. We enjoy traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and spending a couple days in a cabin, shopping, eating, and hanging out. New York, San Diego, anywhere in a 6 hour driving time to your home can be perfect. Just write down a few places within that circle and pick one.
7. Shopping Trips: I know the women love this one and some men too. Getting out for a weekend or few days and doing nothing but spend money in a foreign town/city can be a great way to unwind. Perhaps combine that with some pampering or take in the town nightlife and you'll have yourself one amazing trip.
8. Beaches Excursions: Heading to the beach offers a great weekend getaway to enjoy the walks on the beach, dinner overlooking the ocean, beach front hotel or villa, ocean and water fun, tasty food and drinks, island life, and all that a beach vacation can offer.
9. Festivals, Events, Concerts: Is there a musician playing in a town not too far away? What about a major event or festival? Pack the bags and head out for the weekend. Grab a hotel and head to this event. You'll have a great time. Every town has some sort of event that comes to town throughout the year. Take action and go have some fun.
10. Big City Getaways: Head to New York, San Francisco, Paris, Tokyo, Chicago, or any big city that you love or would love to travel to.
This is just a short list of ideas. Pack your bags and just get away. You'll come back feeling refreshed and ready to plan your next weekend getaway. Plus, instead of doing one long vacation per year why not do a bunch of mini-vacations that have you looking forward to something every few months?

Weekend Getaway Trip?
I live in Ohio...and my fiance and I are looking for somewhere to go for a weekend getaway. I have looked into Hocking Hills (can't find a cabin) and Niagra Falls (not sure where to stay) but I was wondering if anyone else from the area knew of a good place to go in October that has something to do or see.
Thanks!

Weekend Getaway trip 2-3 hours from NYC by car?
Looking for a place for romantic/relaxing weekend getaway. Castle on the Hudson is one option but is fully booked in early Nov when we have the time for this. The place I´m looking for does not have to be that upscale (but it can be of course). The distance from NYC max 2-3 hours by car to any direction. Many thanks for all tips!!
