Manhattan's Brass Monkey: Off The 'Meaten' Path
Manhattan's Brass Monkey: Off the 'Meaten' PathNeighborhood: Meatpacking DistrictNew York City, NY10004United States of AmericaIt may seem odd to describe a place as being 'off the beaten path' in the overcrowded Meatpacking District of NYC. But just a wee bit west of the upscale boutiques, fancy restaurants and dress-code clubs and right across from one of the last actual meatpacking plants in the area you'll find the Brass Monkey (55 Little W. 12th St, NYC).
This is a large wood and brick, simply furnished traditional pub. Beer drinkers can rejoice at their over 20 taps and 35 bottled brews. They of course pull a perfect pint of Guinness and the food here is very good as well. I've had their traditional Irish breakfast before.
There was fear that this place would succumb to the trendy and fashionably arrogant or to the over-the-top biker tourist crowd. But so far it has faired well. The friendly, casual crowd and reasonably priced drinks make for a welcoming neighborhood feel.
Oh and they have a doozy of a two for one drink special that oddly only happens in the afternoon. I guess meatpackers need to booze it up during lunch as much as anyone else.
