How to Save Money on a Nyc Hotel Room

New York City is consistently one of the top US destinations for travel and tourism. Often referred to as "the greatest city in the world", there is much more to the Big Apple than just Manhattan and Times Square. New York City's outlying neighborhoods, or the "outer boroughs", are home to some of the most diverse cultural communities in America.

While the outer boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx are popular for residents, most tourists still opt to book hotels in Manhattan. The close proximity to attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, the Theatre District, Central Park and Times Square make Manhattan hotels a convenient choice for NYC tourists. But booking a hotel room in Manhattan does not have to empty your wallet. By observing a few budget-friendly travel tips and tricks, even the novice traveler can get fantastic accommodations in NYC without losing their shirt.

When planning your vacation to NYC, take into account peak travel times and seasons. Times of the year that attract the most tourists put the hotels in a position of power economically. With more would-be tourists than rooms to house them in, hotels can pretty much name their price for a Manhattan hotel room. By traveling off-season when vacancies are higher, you can catch hotels at a time when they are slashing rates to attract much-needed guests while competing with other area hotels.

Although NYC is difficult to experience in a short span of time, this is not a reflection on its size. New York City is actually quite small, and quick to travel across due to the grid map street layout and variety of public transportation options available. When deciding on where to book your NYC hotel room, don't aim for the hottest areas. Chances are that a 5-minute subway ride from the major action and tourism centers could save you loads of money off an otherwise expensive hotel room. Look to the lesser-trafficked areas of Manhattan to find boutique hotels at significant savings.

Lastly, don't ignore the revolutionary travel solutions available on the Internet when planning to visit the big city. Taking an afternoon to browse travel and hotel forums and discussion groups can provide a world of education on how to secure the best possible rates for your hotel booking. The advent of price comparison hotel shopping sites like Orbitz and Expedia allow travelers to have hotels compete for their business and receive instant price quotes from the comfort of their desk chair. Historical pricing data available on some of these sites will also help you determine which seasons are the cheapest and which are the most expensive to travel during.

New business idea for New York City hotel. Would you use this?
I have a business idea for NYC tourism and business there. In Japan, they have "sleep capsules." (see link below). My idea is to set up a small hotel full of these capsules, but otherwise very nice and clean. People would check in at the front counter, even checking their shoes at the desk because capsule area would be carpeted with nice carpet. I would have a concierge for tourism info, relaxing TV area, Internet wireless and terminals (small web-only computers) and other nice amenities. About $20 a night. What do you think? Suggestions? http://www.yesicanusechopsticks.com/capsule/
