An Oceanfront Hotel For a Family Vacation Getaway in Bathsheba Barbados
Why not try Bathsheba on the less well known non touristy east coast of Barbados for your family vacation getaway at the New Edgewater Hotel.
An oceanfront hotel in Barbados for a family vacation getaway doesn't have to be on the popular west coast or the south coast for that matter. You should take a close look at what the wilder and rugged Atlantic east coast of Barbados has to offer for an affordable getaway vacation for all the family.
Bathsheba is a fishing village, and a getaway hideaway for those people in the know. No big touristy resorts, just small family run hotels, boarding houses and restaurants, with a few rum shops into the bargain. It has breathtaking white sand beaches, with surf running, so not suitable for swimming but excellent for surfing. Also the Bathsheba Pools which are shallow inshore pools carved out of old coral, where you can sit and cool off whilst enjoying a rum punch as the tide comes in swirling around you, and this is an attraction not to be missed.. Be careful however as the sea here has nasty undercurrents and rip tides that can sweep you off your feet.
The New Edgewater Hotel is really more of a rustic inn than a hotel, but it is certainly oceanfront and is a really charming family vacation getaway based on a building that dated back over 200 years.
It has twenty rooms and suites having recently been renamed and reopened under its new name, whilst still retaining some of the older features like the hand carved mahogany furniture.
Apart from overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean it also is close to the Nine Mile Beach, and it's right next door to the lovely waters of Joe's River.
All the rooms are air conditioned, with TV, hair dryer, refrigerator, and there is internet access. After the refurbishment there is a brand new reception area, and the pool has been completely redone, including the pool bar, and the riverside deck where you can relax in the sun and enjoy the tinkling sounds of the river. The pool is well maintained and clean, and is attended to every day, so there is little chance of the annoying ear and eye infections so often picked up in hotel pools, which increases the the probability that the New Edgewater Hotel will be a good place for a family vacation getaway.
The restaurant called The Cliffside has indoor and outdoor dining, with breakfast which is included in the room rate, plus lunch and dinner, with a very good reputation for its cuisine, with the Bajan Buffet getting top marks. The views by the way from the outside deck are really spectacularly good, and the standard breakfast is very continental but if you want a cooked option you can choose from the menu. Saturday night tends to be BBQ night, which like all the rest of the meals here are not expensive compared to other establishments, so is really good value for money.
The location of the New Edgewater Hotel is amazing, if you can forget the bad roads and the distance you have to travel from the airport to get here. It is oceanfront, it is very affordable, but before making a booking remember this isn't even a four star establishment so any judgments you make must include the cheapness, and the realization that refurbishment doesn't necessarily mean everything is 21st century plastic smart. This is after all a century plus old inn, and it does show its age, but the staff are very welcoming and willing for all that.

Would it be totally ridiculous if I got the tattoo Captain Jack Sparrow has?
http://www.family-vacation-getaways-at-los-angeles-theme-parks.com/images/PirateTattoo.gif
Except I'd like my name, instead of "Jack" written under it.
I want this tattoo because I have an obsession with pirates, POTC is my favorite movie, I love the character of Jack Sparrow...PLUS! I think the design itself is cute. I lvoe the sparrow flying over the ocean, it's very free.
I want it on my inner wrist.
Would this be stupid?
